Let the number that is to be added be x

As per the question,

x + 2 * (-7/3) = 3/7

x – 14/3 = 3/7

(3x – 14)/ 3 = 3 / 7

3x – 14 = 9 / 7

7 (3x – 14) = 9

21x – 98 = 9

21 x = 9 + 98

21 x = 107

x = 107/21

Answer :

Given rational number is -7/5

Suppose x should be added to
the twice of -7/5 to get the number 3/7.

=> 2×(-7/5) + x = 3/7

=> -14/5 + x = 3/7

=> x = 3/7 + 14/5

=> x = (15 + 98)/(5×7)

=> x = 113/35

Lets verify our answer,

2×(-7/5) + 113/35 = 113/35 - 14/5

= (113 - 98) / (35) = 15/35 = 3/7

So the value of x verifies the given situatio.

So the number 113/35 should be added to -7/5 to get the number 3/7
