Given: x^{2} +y^{2} and x^{2} +y^{2} +2xy

We have to find the term that is to be added to x^{2} +y^{2} to get x^{2} +y^{2} +2xy.

For that do subtraction:

We get:

(x^{2} +y^{2} +2xy)-(x^{2} +y^{2})

x^{2} +y^{2}+2xy-x^{2} -y^{2}

2xy.

Therefore, 2xy should be added.
