Let the number you want to find be ‘x' .

According to the given conditions,

(x-⅛) * ¼ = 1/16

Now changing the side of ¼ we get,

x-⅛ = 4/16

(Multiplication on the other side becomes division and vice versa)

x-⅛ = ¼

x = ¼+⅛

(Subtraction on the other end becomes Addition and vis-a-vis)

Therefore, x = ⅜

Answer:

1/8 - x = -5/8

x= -5/8 -1/8

x= (-5-1)/8

x= -6/8

x= -3/8 is must be subtracted from 1/8 to get -5/8
