 \frac{ - 2}{3}  - x =  \frac{3}{4}  \\  - x =  \frac{3}{4}  -  \frac{ - 2}{3}  \\  - x =  \frac{ 9 - ( - 8) }{12}  \\  - x =  \frac{9 + 8} {12}  \\  - x =  \frac{17}{12}  \\ x =   -  \frac{17}{12}

x - 2/3 = 3/4
x = 3/4 + 2/3
x. = 3/4 multiplied by 3 and 2/3 multiplied by 4 (both numerator and the denominator)
x = 9+8/12 = 17/12
x = 1 5/12
