= -5-8/12

= -3/12

= -1/4

So, the answer is -1/4

let the number to be subtracted be k

-5/12 - k = 2/3

k = -5/12 - 2/3

k = -13/12

-13/12 must be subtracted from -5/12 to get 2/3
