         Let the number be $x.$

         according to the question,

         $-\frac{5}{3}-x=-\frac{2}{7}\\\\-x=-\frac{2}{7}+\frac{5}{3\\\\}$

         $-x=\frac{29}{21}$

         $x=-\frac{29}{21}$

      Hence the  -$\frac{29}{21}$ is subtracted from $-\frac{5}{3}$ to get $-\frac{2}{7}$ .

-5/3+2/7=x

-35/21+6/21=x

(-35+6)/21=x
