Let X should be subtracted to make it -1

Then,

5/8 - X = -1

5/8 + 1 = X

5/8 +1/1 = X

We take L.C.M. of 1 and 8 as 8

Now,

5+8/8 = X

13/8 = X

So, the no. 13/8 should be subtracted

To check,

5/8 - 13/8 = -1

-8/8 = -1

-1 = -1

Hence verified
