Let the subtracted number be "y"

(-7/4)-y= (-5)

(-7/4)= (-5)+y

y=(-7/4)+5

y=13/4)

(-7/4)-(13/4)= (-5)

(-13/4) should be subtracted from (-7/4) to get (-5)

Answer:

 let \: the \: number \: be \: x \\ \frac{ - 7}{ 4}  - x =  - 5 \\  \\   \frac{ - 7}{4}  + 5 = x \\  \frac{ - 7}{4}  +  \frac{20}{4}  = x \\  \frac{13}{4}  = x \\ therefore \: we \: have \: to \:  substract \:  \frac{13}{4} from \frac{ - 7}{4} to \: get \: 5
