Answer:

The electrical heating is used to produce light in an electric bulb. The filament gets very hot and emits light. To avoid melting, a strong metal with high melting point such as tungsten (melting point 3380o C) is used for making bulb filaments. Most of the power consumed by the filament appears as heat, but a small part of it is in the form of light radiated.

Filament : It is conducting wire of thread having high melting point, it is usually a part of electric bulb.Heat produced by the filament depends on the thickness of wire, nature of material and its length.

Filament of an electric bulb gets heated due to current passing through it , to such a high temperature that it starts glowing produces light.
