ARE YOUR WING mirrors positioned so you can see the sides of your car?
Well, it’s time to forget those flanks as seeing them can increase blind spots and the chances of having an accident. According to research carried out by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the best position for wing mirrors is the Blindspot and Glare Elimination (BGE) setting. Here’s how to adjust wing mirrors to the BGE setting: sit in the driver’s seat and lean your head against the side window. Position the wing mirror so you can just see the side of your car. Then, move your head to the centre of the car, in line with the rear view mirror, and make the same adjustment to the other wing mirror.
Using the BGE setting means that your mirrors cover more area, thus reducing blind spots and the glare from trailing cars’ headlights will also be eliminated.
