Answer: Oxygen only makes up about 20 % of the atmosphere, not the majority. The majority is actually nitrogen (N2) which constitutes about 78 %.
Oxygen doesn't burn on its own though, it needs a fuel. That fuel is your match stick, when that fuel is gone, it stops burning. There's nothing else to burn so the fact that there's a decent amount of oxygen around isn't dangerous.
