The social structure in rural India revolves round caste, family and community. Caste system has strong roots even today. So far as the economic structure of rural India is concerned it is mainly agrarian. Farming is still the main occupation of the people. Both men and women are involved in the agriculture. The activity of ploughing the fields is mainly done by men and women help their husbands by sowing of seeds, reaping and harvesting.
Villages in India still follow traditional values, old customs and traditions. These are well reflected in the activities of the people. This practise of joint family is predominant. Under joint family system, all members reside under one roof. There is a had of the family who takes important decisions.
The social bonding among people in villages are strong and there is a warmth in relationships which is hard to find in urban areas. Values of unity, togetherness and brotherhood has been reflected in economic structure of rural India.
