Professionalism in sport and other activities has been looked down upon as earning money through such activity has been the prime consideration. Today, however, society has begun to realise that such a mode of earning money is not evil after all, as the person concerned has devoted his/her time and energy in excelling in that particular field and that is the thing the person knows best and so has reached a level of competence.
Amateurs too have pursued a sport or other activity, born out of an interest, and have excelled in the particular field. But, they have had other means for their and their family's sustenance.
With societal changes, it has dawned on people that it is not an evil to leverage one's skills and earn money in sport or any other persuasion by good performances.
