Historians use two kinds of sources – primary sources and secondary sources for the study of a particular period of history. Primary sources refer to mechanical devices or evidence of witnesses that were present when an event took place in history. Secondary sources refer to evidences recorded by people who were not there when the incident occurred.

The sources used by historians are many in number and include a range of textual and architectural records, coins and inscriptions.

Historians get their information from two different kinds of sources i.e  primary and secondary. Primary sources are considered as first hand sources and secondary sources are second hand sources.
