Direct preparation of calcium sulphate hemihydrate (Ca2H2O9S) is achieved by way of reaction between sulphuric acid and lime. Calcium sulphate hemihydrate is commonly known as Plaster of Paris.
Since the procedure involves reaction with sulphuric acid (H2SO4), which is highly toxic and corrosive, the necessary high degree of precaution has to be taken, to ensure that sulphuric acid does not cause accident, injury or other discomfort during its use.
