Plaster of paris is hydrated calcium sulphate . prepared by heating gypsum at 1200C

CaSO4.2H2O−→1200CaSO4.12/H2O+32/H2O
The necessary precaution is that the temperature should be maintained because if the temperature varies it adversly affects the setting property of plaster of Paris

The special precautions that should be taken during the preparation of plaster of paris is that gypsum must me heated constantly at 373K.

If more heat is applied then gypsum will lose all its water of crystallization and calcium sulphate Will be formed.
