Most of the federations that are formed by ‘holding together’ do not give equal power to its constituent units. All states in Indian union do not have identical powers. Some states enjoy a special status, like Jammu & Kashmir which has its own constitution. Many provisions of the Indian Constitution are not applicable to this state without the approval of the State Assembly. Indians who are not the permanent residents of this state cannot buy land or house here.

Some of the states of India are given special provisions, namely, Jammu and Kashmir.

Explanation:

  • J&K has its very own constitution and till very recently it was enjoying the power of special status.
  • As per the recent events, the government of India removed the Article 35A and 370 that depicted the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, and did not allow any Indian to hold properties in that state.
  • Also, amenities were provided to that state enabled the citizens to obtain and enjoy basic amenities at very low cost and without taxes.
