The Constitution of India has given the "official language" of the country status to the Hindi in the Devangari script.
The Article 343 of the Constitution of India states that the official language of the Union (India) should be Hindi in Devanagari script.
So the Constitution of India gives the official language status to Hindi, not the status of National Language.
