We should spread awareness among people for importance of education in our daily life. We can also teach some underprivileged children of our surrounding, depends if you are actually interested in doing so. We dont need any money for this cause. We just need to spread our knowledge with others.

Following steps have been taken by the government to improve literacy rate in India:

1. Government has introduced the mid- day meal scheme in 1995 with the aim to increase the percentage of attendance of the students in schools and to improve their nutritional status.

2.The SarvaSiksha Abhiyan is another important step taken by the government to provide free elementary education to the children of the age group 6 to 14 years.It is an initiative taken by the central government in partnership with the state and the local governments with the purpose of achieving the goal of universalization of education.

3.Navodaya Vidyalayas are government aided schools mainly to provide scope for talented children belonging to the rural areas.It provides free education to the children who manage to qualify the entrance exam for admissions at district levels.It provides vocational training to the high school students to impart the knowledge and skills necessary for employment in future.

4.Governments have also plans to increase the enrolment level in the higher education for students in the age- group of18 to 23 years.For this purpose, government is trying to make education accessible by establishing new institutions and colleges providing both formal and informal education, distant education,education in computers and technology as well as vocational education for enhancing job opportunities.
