Plans to form the Indian Constitution were made several decades before India won its freedom from the British rule in 1947.
The Constituent Assembly had various meetings with the public for close to three years. There were a lot of discussions and debates regarding this in the Assembly. After this, all the assembly members signed the document pertaining to the formation of the Indian Constitution. There were two copies of the document – one in Hindi and one in English. Both copies were signed by all the 308 members.
