The qualities Beowulf put to use through the course of the epic are superhuman. He tears Grendel's arm from his body with his uncovered hands, wields Grendel's mom's sword like it was made for insignificant mortals, and presents Grendel's go to Hrothgar by tossing it on the meat table with his own hands (it took four men to convey it to Heorot otherwise).
Physical strength, fearlessness, boldness, devotion and the capacity to consider himself last makes him respected by all.
