DNA is the genetic material present inside the nucleus of the cell. It replicates before each cell division so that each daughter cell could have the exact copy. For the replication process, it is necessary for the DNA to unwound. As DNA is a double stranded helical molecule with hydrogen bonding present between the two strands, so for the separation and unwinding of the two helical strands, a series of proteins are present. These proteins actually help the DNA to unwind to get the single stranded form required for replication.
Among them, DNA helicases are the enzymatic proteins that causes the separation of the two strands of the DNA.
