British East Indian company saw Indian kings were idiots, who were proud and fighting for petty reasons. They said if you align with me I will make sure the other Indian King will never attack and in return Indian kings had to help them with resources/trade/assistance etc. Slowly they were able to take over the country. This same approach was applied by Portugal, and France but to lesser extent. When ever there was war between British and French. India used to be another place that war was fought.
