It depends.
If you are talking about a future event (like you are giving invitation), it should be in future tense.
If you are talking about something at present (like facts or how are you, what you are doing, which college do you go, etc.), present tense.
If you are talking about a story or some event, it should be in past tense. It should also be used in apology messages (asking him/her to forgive you for some mistake of the past).

maallu9524: If there a sentence "Right now I am trying to settle the formalities" by the person who want to convey the message... You have to tell this someone else.. how will write this in message to that person
Anonymous: I am settling my formalities.
maallu9524: People say you should write if in reported speech...
maallu9524: *it
Anonymous: indirect,cright???
maallu9524: Yes......You are not to change the tense right????
Anonymous: If he replies back, he should reported speech, like—You said that you were settling formalities
maallu9524: In a nutshell you should not change the tense... I am really sry that I am asking you again
Anonymous: and if you are telling him/her something which somebody else, like your parents or teachers, have said and you do not remember their exact words but you remember the meaning, you need to use indirect
maallu9524: The questions are on situations like A is a person who wants to tell about something to B but B is not present at that moment and you are present ... B gives you the information to convey it to A... Then which tense will you use to write message to A???
