Revolution and rotation are commonly misunderstood in relation to each other. Rotation is the term given to the Earth’s own movement or spin around its north-south axis which lasts for 24 hours or one day, as we term it.

To illuminate this better, take a top, spin it and throw it to the ground. It will move around in a gradual arc. This would be called its revolution while its own spin on the little nail jutting from its bottom would be the rotation.
