by making solution if it release h ion so it is acid and if oh then base
But u can't c wid ur naked eye whether it is releasing hydronium ion or hydroxide ion
but its a basic experiment in laboratory for checking it

acid- first taste it if it's taste is sour then it is acid.
base- it taste bitter
base- it taste bitter
some another tests can u give answer
If u taste acid u will sure burn ur mouth as they r corrosive in nature
