Let the vector that needs to be added be X. The resultant displacement is given as 7 meters in X direction hence can be returned as 7i. The factor that it has to be added with X is 25i -6j. Since i is the vector in X direction and j is the vector in Y direction and the resultant vector is in x direction hence factor that need to be added should cancel out the Y direction completely.
25i -6j +X = 7i
⇒ 25i -6j -7i +X=0
⇒ 18i -6j +X = 0
⇒ X = -18 i+6j
