Contrary to popular belief a bike is not always stabilized by the gyroscopic effect of the wheels and other moving parts. If you ride a bike slower than about 15 mph the gyroscopic effects of the wheels are not strong enough to keep it upright. In the low speed range the bike is held upright by balancing, that means that you do not drive a straight line, but actually you ride a slightly wiggly line. Balancing a bike this way is quite easy, it is like balancing a broom on the stick in your hand. Humans are very good at such things. If they would not be able to balance themselves they would not be able to walk upright.
