what the three order of the western society includes
Answers
Answer:
While studying European society, we get that almost all of Europe was divided into three orders. These were:
a. Clergy
This group dealt with church society. This order was further divided into the occupations based on the positions assigned by the Church. This included the Archbishops, the bishops, the clergymen and the churchmen. This group remained independent from the 'Monarchial Arc'. They got favours from the crown, were allowed to extract taxes from the people, received grants, etc. Their tax was commonly called the 'tithe' or the religious tax for the service of the Church.
b. Nobility
This group also enjoyed the same privileges as the Churchmen(Clergy) enjoyed in most of Europe. They, however, were within the Monarchial Arc, this means that they were not independent of the Crown. They also included the Knights. This group held lands(known as Estates) on behalf of the Crown. They also maintained personal army (on behalf of the Crown), so that they could help the Crown when in need. They also obtained a part of the product by the peasants in agriculture.
c. Third estate (peasants, lawyers, court-men, artisans, others)
This group had a majority of the population in Europe but held only 10% of lands. This group was further classified into two sub-groups - The upper third estate and the lower third estate. The upper third estate consisted of lawyers, court-men, merchants and big businessmen. On the other hand, the lower third estate consisted of the artisans, peasants, small traders, slaves, etc. This was the only estate that was bound to pay taxes to the Crown(Taille) and the Church Society(Tithe). They were also bound to pay a part of their produce to the nobility, and several other indirect taxes. This group was also denied the right to vote and was worst hit in case of any crisis.
Hope, this helps you.
