All viruses are species specific in thier nature of pathogenecity. Nucleopolyhedroviruses are used as biocontrol agents to kill insects which harm crops. Due to their specificity they kill only the desired insects not other ones, thus not destroying biodiversity of the region. This is an example of narrow range insecticide.
