What this means is that if you know a function is differentiable, then you know it is continuous. Think about it, can a function have a slope in a place where it does not exist?? The reverse of this statement is not true however, because a function is continuous does not mean it must be differentiable. Think about the graph of the absolute value function, while it is continuous at x=0 it is not differentiable there.
