What three techniques should the scrum master use when the scrum team gets caught in an internal disagreement?
Answers
The Scrum Master should encourage the resolution of conflicts in an open environment where the team members feel free to express their opinions and ultimately agree on how the work has to be carried out. The different approaches to manage conflict in an organization applying Scrum processes are:
1. Win-Win - If there is any disagreement the team members can openly discuss and arrive at a consensus.
2. Lose-Win - Few team members may feel that their contributions are not being recognized and may not contribute effectively to the project. This may happen when the managers or some team use an authoritative style. The Scrum Master should encourage the team members who seem to be withdrawing from conflict situations.
3. Lose-Lose - Team members may try to bargain or search for solutions which give only partial satisfaction to the parties in a dispute. Some amount of give and take is involved in this approach to satisfy every team member. This results in an overall Los-Lose outcome. So the Scrum Master should ensure that this mentality does not become prevalent. He should see to it that the problems are solved by mutual discussions by conducting Scrum meetings and Scrum Daily Standup.
