It is given that,

a + 1/a = p ----(1)

We know the algebraic identity:
(x+y)³ = x³+y³+3xy(x+y)
___________________

a³+1/a³+3*a*1/a(a+1/a)=(a+1/a)³

=> a³+1/a³+3(a+1/a)=(a+1/a)³

=> a³+1/a³+3p=p³ [from(1)]

=> a³+1/a³ = p³-3p
