At around 7500 BC , the Assyrian conquered the entire region . However , their rule lasted for less than a century . Nineveh was the most important city .
Hammurabi from 1792 to 1750 BC was the greatest of the Babylonian rulers . he conquered territories to the north and expanded his empire in the region which is now known as Iraq . Hammurabi is famous for his Code of Law . He inscribed the law of his land on a huge slab of stone . the Law Code contains 282 laws relating to economic , family , civil and criminal cases .
