the French society consisted of three estates called the clergy and nobility and the third estate.
clergy were the church people which extracted a tax called tithi from the third estate which wanted one tenth of the total produce of the third estate. they also enjoyed special privileges offered to them by Louis XVI such as didn't have to pay any tax and remained into a peaceful life.

nobility were very special people for Louis XVI and enjoy to special privileges first was the exemption from paying taxes to the state and the second was the feudal privileges which were enjoyed from birth. in the feudal privileges they offered the third estate the duties to fight in the walls and clean their homes so that they will offer shelter and home to the third estate at no wagesand the poor third estate had to respect the words of the nobility.
third estate consisted of the poor people such as merchants lawyer artisans etc. devar bound by excessive taxes such as tail a direct tax which they had to pay to the state and teeth which they have to pay to the church and the number of direct taxes
