Antonio lost all of his fortunes in the accident, one day he was rich and the other he was broke. Moreover, when Shylock proposed the idea of a “pound” of Antonio’s “Fair flesh” it was considered to be a joke but afterwards Shylock actually wanted a pound of his flesh which shows Shylock’s manipulative personality and how Antonio was tricked.
