What two sources of friction do you have to overcome when you are walking?

Gravity is pushing you down on the earth while thefriction from the ground is pushing you up. Those are the two frictions you must overcome when walking.

I know gravity is not friction but it plays imp role in Walking As it Let's u to stand still(at least) by exerting vertical force And another factor would be Friction from ground...This frictional force acts in the opposite direction to the horizontal component of the force of your foot on the ground. That means when your foot is ‘pushing forward’ at the start of a stride

the frictional force acts backwards to prevent you slipping while when you are ‘pushing backwards’ at the end of the stride it acts forwards

also u must remember F=μG where μ is the coefficient of friction...

The reason that the vertical forces are greater in walking and running than they are when you are standing still is that in standing the vertical force has just to balance your weight as stated earlier However in walking, and to a more extreme case in running, the force has to support your weight and produce a change of momentum as you land, changing the downward motion to an upward motion for the following stride.
