A magnifying glass (called a hand lens in laboratory contexts) is a convex lens that is used to produce a magnified image of an object. The lens is usually mounted in a frame with a handle .-(see img. 1)

A converging lens produced a virtual image when the object is placed in front of the focal point. For such a position, the image is magnified and upright, thus allowing for easier viewing. (see img. 2)
