Answer:

Air is a mixture and not a compound because of following reasons: Air can be separated into its constituents such as oxygen, nitrogen etc. by fractional distillation of liquid air. Air shows the properties of all the gases present in it. For example: Air supports combustion because of oxygen present in air.

udiptamandalgdb: I asked that what type of mixture is air? Homogenous/heterogenopus
udiptamandalgdb: *heterogenous
vaishnavi77936: it's homogeneous
vaishnavi77936: mixture
udiptamandalgdb: ok thanks @vaishnavi77936
vaishnavi77936: welcome
honeybeareb: check my answer....if it is correct or not
vaishnavi77936: it's write
honeybeareb: right* but thank you :)

Answer: Air is a homogeneous mixture of the gaseous substances nitrogen, oxygen, and smaller amounts of other substances. Salt, sugar, and many other substances dissolve in water to form homogeneous mixtures.

Explanation: A homogeneous mixture in which there is both a solute and solvent present is also a solution. Mixtures can have any amounts of ingredients.

Mixtures are unlike chemical compounds, because:

The substances in a mixture can be separated using physical methods such as filtration, freezing, and distillation.

There is little or no energy change when a mixture forms (see Enthalpy of mixing).

Mixtures have variable compositions, while compounds have a fixed, definite formula.
