abdulhadi: The calcium, Ca+2 ion has lost (given away) 2 electrons , so has the +2 charge, because it has 2 fewer electrons than protons. The atoms left from the outer energy level.

The calcium atom, Ca, has equal numbers of protons, + charges and electrons, - charges. ( 20 and 20)

Calcium forms ionic bonds as it gives away the electrons.
