A person with blood group O is an universal donor.

This is because there are no antigens on the surface of RBCs. So, when blood transfusion of blood group O takes place in any body, then there is no immune response generated and no antibodies are formed.

A person with blood person AB acts as universal recipient.

This is because there are two antigens on the surface of RCBs in the body of person with blood group AB. Hence, there are no antibodies present in the body. So, that person is safe when blood transfusion takes place.

  • REMEMBER that antigens are those substances which generates immune response against them.
