well C is carbon, carbon is a nonmetal

H is hydrogen and it's also a nonmetal

when you have two nonmetal it is a COVALENT compound

when you have a metal and a nonmetal it is IONIC compound

example: NaAr sodium and argon one is a metal and on is a nonmetal

Covalent bond is formed because both the elements present in it is non-metal
