Answer:

Being an IELTS trainer who is also fond of teaching younger kids, I feel that I constantly need to update myself in multiple ways. The contemporary world is dynamic, whether it is about the syllabus and concepts or ways of teaching or ethics or the teacher-student relationship.

‘Respect is something that has to be commanded, it cannot be demanded.’

As a pedagogue, if I want respect, I must perform my duty with dedication; albeit it holds true for almost every profession and relationships too. In order to achieve this, I have to be as dynamic as the world of nonce.

When it comes to the syllabus, I try to stay abreast of the latest concepts and strive to gain as much knowledge as possible. This is also necessary to properly answer and settle the queries of students. However, this is probably easy when compared to the other demands of the profession.

Coming to methods of teaching, I must be able to ignite curiosity of my students and teach in such a way that they are able to assimilate most of what I teach. The onus lies on me and I often muse over new ways to teach.

Then comes teacher-student relationship. The society has undergone a paradigm shift. With this, the teacher-student equation has also witnessed a complete metamorphosis. The teacher of today is not supposed to dictate anything at all to the students. So, the educationist must be able to strike a rapport with the students and have a friendly relationship with them, irrespective of whether the pupils are mature or kids.

Last but not the least, we have been witnessing a rapid deterioration in ethics and moral values. All and sundry has become aggressive and has scant regard for any other person or money or resources. However, being a teacher, it’s my moral responsibility to try and inculcate ethics in my students i.e. besides imparting education and knowledge to them.

‘Actions speak louder than words.’

‘Practice what you preach.’

Going by these sayings, I must be a good role model for my students so as to set a good precedent for them. Apart from teaching properly, I must always be patient and calm. I must be able to form a close bond with them, so that they trust me; only then they would respect me and pay heed to what I teach- whether it’s academics or ethics.

I think I have given more than two examples of the changes required on the part of the pedagogues to cater to the changing society and learners.
