A black coating of silver sulphide is formed on silver articles when they get corroded. The silver articles react with Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) present in air to form a black layer on it.

When copper articles are left exposed to air, they react with oxygen, water and carbon dioxide to form copper carbonate.
