What type of compound is a metal oxide, with reference to neutralization reaction?

Depending upon properties of metal, which play a major role in deciding the nature of oxide.

Most metals form basic oxides, whereas some have the tendency to form amphoteric oxide… too. whereas non metals form acidic oxides in general. So  you need to look at the properties of metal before judging it's oxide with respect to neutralization reaction.

A metal oxide is a basic compound generally but some metal oxides are amphoteric as well . So, it depends on the metal oxides whether they are basic or amphoteric with reference to neutralization reaction.
