If the child develops a "barky" or "croupy" cough, sit in a steamy bathroom together for about 20 minutes.

Offer plenty of fluids (breast milk or formula for babies; cool water and juice for older kids). Avoid carbonated or citrus drinks that may irritate a raw throat.

Run a cool-mist humidifier in your child's bedroom.

Use saline (saltwater) nose drops to relieve congestion.

Never give cough drops (a choking hazard) to young kids or cough or cold medicine to kids under 6 years of age.

The comman aids a person should take when coughing does not stops includes the following measures, given below:-

  • Coughing may occurs due to the temporary blockage of the trachea by any foreign food particle which restricts the flow of oxygen into the body.
  • Although, Coughing while choking can be healthy as it helps to remove dirt from the trachea but it can cause severe health problems like brain malfunctioning if not provided with the first aid immediately.
  • You should talk on the back of an adult for 4-5 times if they start coughing, the more you hit hard, the faster cough will stop.
  • If a child is suffering from cough, one should not give them sour or carbonated drinks as it may irritate their throat.
  • Rather, they should be provided with the saline nose drops that can help them in relieving congestion.
  • If the cough last for more than a week, one should consult their child to a doctor and have a proper treatment under their guidance.
