The ferns are pteridophytes.A fern bears large flat leaves with a large number of leaflets.THe young leaf(frond) develops initially as a coiled structure which gradually grows into full-fledged leaf. THe leaflets bear sporangia on the surface that produce spores.

Ferns are vascular plants differing from lycophytes by having true leaves
the leaves of  ferns are Megaphylls which are often pinnate.
