Oxides of metal and non-metal

Explanation:

Oxides formed by metals are basic or amphoteric.

  1. Examples of Basic oxides of metals are sodium hydroxide (NaOH), copper oxide (CuO).
  2. Examples of amphoteric oxides of metals are Zinc oxide (ZnO), Aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and Lead oxide (PbO).

Oxides formed by non metals are acidic or neutral.

  1. Examples of acidic oxides of non-metals are sulphur oxide (SO2) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
  2. Neutral oxides of non-metals include dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) or water.
