What type of psychological therapy does not direct the patient, but instead provides help and support to the patient, with the goal of letting the patient help themselves?

✴Another option might be Case Management.

✴Most of us have had the good fortune of working with really talented case managers.

✴They may not be providing “psychological therapy” per se, but they are using good social work principles, usually through the concept of support and challenge.

✴A client who gets connected with a food bank and can now give up “dumpster diving”, is conceivably being helped as much, if not more, than having a session of “talk therapy”.

✴This isn’t meant to denigrate the practice of psychotherapy but, to keep in mind that not all the work of therapy is done in the office within a 50 minute session.
