Acidic salt is formed when strong acid reacts with a weak base.

What is a strong acid?

  • Acid that completely ionises into the solution.
  • Example: HCl → H⁺ + Cl⁻

                        H₂SO₄→ 2H⁺ + SO₄

What is a weak Base?

  • Base that does not completely ionises into the solution.
  • Example: NH₄OH → NH₄⁺ + OH⁻

So when a strong acid like HCl reacts with a weak base like NH₄OH it gives an Acidic salt.

            HCl  +  NH₄OH  →  NH₄Cl  +  H₂O

          strong +  weak      →  Acidic

           acid       base            salt
