Acidic salt is formed when strong acid reacts with a weak base.
What is a strong acid?
- Acid that completely ionises into the solution.
- Example: HCl → H⁺ + Cl⁻
H₂SO₄→ 2H⁺ + SO₄
What is a weak Base?
- Base that does not completely ionises into the solution.
- Example: NH₄OH → NH₄⁺ + OH⁻
So when a strong acid like HCl reacts with a weak base like NH₄OH it gives an Acidic salt.
HCl + NH₄OH → NH₄Cl + H₂O
strong + weak → Acidic
